The Fun Begins

One of the bridesmaids, Shelli, arrived from Wyoming this morning. Things are going smoothly. Erin met the other gals this afternoon--they drove from Wyoming. She is having each of the gals videotape some comments as a gift for Carrie. Tonight they are going to some restaraunt, I really don't know which one. (Keith says Olive Garden.) Most of them are coming back here afterward. I just can't see getting hotel rooms. Only problem is, we ran out of hot water this morning and none of them were even here yet--a few showers, Mya's bath, and laundry. I think Keith will be turning up the temp on the water heater so that it will go farther.

Oh, The Pain

Keep praying for Keith. He is in constant pain and needs to feel better for the wedding. This is not a new problem but seems to crop up at the very worst times. Lots of things to do today and I need him to watch Mya while I go out. Thankfully, I can go just before her nap. That will help him.

Starting Off Bumpy

Guess we have the post-Christmas blues. Mya threw a major fit this morning. First time in quite a while. One more week and hopefully things will get back into some sort of routine.

Keith threw out his back yesterday and is also dealing with dizziness. Not sure were the dizziness is coming from. Just hope it goes away. One problem is enough to cope with. Fortunately he is on vacation this week and doesn't have to worry about calling in. Just want him better soon.

Our new Associate Pastor moves to Minnesota this week. We're pretty excited. He and his family lived in Florida. Hope they make it here before the snowfall that is predicted for late in the week.

Erin, Mya and I hit the Kohl's store yesterday with the idea of getting necklaces for the bridesmaids but Carrie said not to get any until she was there. So much for that but never fear, we found a new coat with matching snow pants and an extra pair of snow pants for Mya and a shirt for Erin all for around $35 -- we had a $10 certificate. I was so proud of our frugality.

Got my hair colored and cut by a wonderful lady from our church--thanks Eileen! Carrie and Erin think it looks really good. Gotta figure out what to do with Mya's hair. I am having her "practice" wearing a clip on her bangs. I hope to find a fancy clip for her for the wedding.

Still gotta find shoes for myself and I guess the bridesmaids do too. I think I'll suggest Famous Footwear. I have one of their memberships. Maybe we can get one pair free or something.

The first bridesmaid arrives Friday morning. Then our house will be full of activity. The girls are going out on Friday night to have a party. The guys are doing something too. Keith and I get to relax--well as much as you can with a 2 yr old in the house.

Practice is on Saturday, since the location of the wedding, Club 3 Degrees ( http://club3degrees.com/index2.asp ), is having a huge New Year's Eve bash with Mark Schultz playing.

Sunday is the groom's dinner at Jon's parent's home. Dan and Faith are wonderful people. I imagine their house is busy with visitors too. Jon's sister lives in Colorodo. She and her husband have a 1 yr old--Elizabeth, and are expecting another baby in the summer. That alone gives Jon's mom plenty to keep busy with.

The pictures start at 2 pm on Monday. Jon and Carrie are having quite a few pictures taken before the service but decided not to see one another until the service. So, the couple shots will be after the service. Hopefully that will be fairly quick as we don't want the guests to wait too long for dinner.

Not sure what the rest of today holds but I better go find out.
Have a good one!

Snuggling in Dora Blanket

I gave Mya a super plush Dora Blanket and Dora sheets. She will get Carrie's bed some time this spring and I wanted to prime her. She loved it and took it to bed in the crib for her nap. Unfortunately, she woke up from throwing up (only once--too much variety in food). So Dora took a bath and Mya skipped the rest of her nap. However, she took Dora to bed last night AND snuggled in to watch the movie she got from Joe and Rachael--My Neighbor Totoro. Here she is all wrapped up like a baby - at her request.

Christmastime with the Kids

The presents were finally all wrapped as of Friday at midnight. Mya was the first one up one Saturday morning. So, she got to open her "Sophia" gift. Thank you, Sophia. Mya likes her new dolly. She wanted to see if she could get her coat off.

When the Erin and Carrie and Jon woke up and Joe and Rachael arrived, they all opened a couple gifts before we ate. Then after our stomachs were stuffed, we finished up the gifts. Everyone was happy with their new treasures. Afterward, it was a time to enjoy the gifts and hang around before Joe, Rachael and Erin headed off to work. A good day, all in all.

Christmas Love

Taken from: http://ktis.nwc.edu/page.php?id=164

1 Corinthians 13 - Christmas Version

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shining balls, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another cook.
If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crystal snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn’t envy another’s home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way.
Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return, but rejoices in giving to those who can’t.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.
Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust.
But giving the gift of love will endure.
Merry Christmas.

Just for Stef

So, Stef, I couldn't find a photo of Mr. Happy. Must have a video cuz I remember getting something of him.

In his place, I am posting a pic of all of us at Mr Cricket's house. As you remember, we were all so exhausted that we were nearly in delirium. BUT it was a hoot. Still can't believe that cricket and grasshopper are worth the same as a US racehorse.
Hope this makes ya chuckle.

Snowy to Groomer

With the holidays and wedding coming, even Snowy gets a bath. I had it done less than a month ago but she stinks again. This time they will brush her teeth too. Hope that helps a lot. She gets really nervous but it has to be done. We just can't have people petting her and getting stinky hands. YUCK!

Start your Own Tradition

My mom found this in the newspaper when we were kids and started making it at the holidays. That's how it all began. Thanks mom.

Grandma Arlene's Carmel Corn
2 c brown sugar
1c butter
1/2 c light corn syrup
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp Vanilla
7 1/2 quarts popped corn--divided into 2 aluminum roasting pans

Boil butter, sugar, syrup and salt in a saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add baking soda and vanilla - mix thoroughly (caution-rapid expansion of mixture).

Pour over popped corn, mixing immediately--2 man job. Place coated corn (which is in aluminum roasters) into 200 degree oven for 1 hour--stirring at 15 minute intervals. Cool on large clean surface.

Traditions that Stick

Some traditions are worth keeping.
Carrie and Jon have decided to continue
making carmel corn at the holidays.
Here they are making their first batch together.

My 2 Babies

Erin was my baby for 14 years. She wanted a picture of the
two of them together. I was busy at the Christmas program.
So, they had a friend (thanks Mel) take the pic.
Pretty nice!!

Trying for that perfect Christmas Picture

Capturing Mya can be pretty difficult. She wiggles more than a bowl of Jello.
Thankfully, I did manage to get a couple good ones. Enjoy!

Just For Emmie

Hi Emmie,

Life has been one big blur this week. I have picked up extra hours at work and today is the first of 4 days off. Praise the Lord!!!

This morning, Mya and I headed off to church at 9:15 so that she could be at program practice and I could assemble the candy/prize bags for our Church Christmas program, tomorrow. These are bags that even you would love. Inside is a small pack of holiday crayons, a notebook, plastic ring, sticky rubber lizard, stickers, a blow horn, a plastic necklace, a balloon and a LOT of candy. The program starts at 10:00 am, if you care to come over AND the great thing is it is followed by ham dinner. So, you don't even have to rush out to eat.

After stuffing the bags, I sent Mya home with Erin, in hopes that Mya would take a nap. Then I was off to pick up my Dyson vacuum from the local Best Buy cuz it just plain wouldn't start one day. Fortunately, we had the extended warranty and it did not cost me anything out of pocket. I did look kind of funny pushing a vacuum across the parking lot, I have to admit.

Next, I went over to Borders Books with the intention of finding a vegetarian cookbook for my son's girlfriend, Rachael. I did find one and then a book for each member of the family except Mya, she gets 4 little ones. My son gets 2 actually--bunny care books. I thought my future son-in-law could use a "college cookbook" so that he can take care of Carrie when she doesn't want to cook. I can't share Erin or Carrie's books cuz they occasionally read my blog.

I had had enough shopping by then and headed home only to find that Mya was still awake, helping papa daddy put up Christmas lights. We played outside for a few minutes and ate some lunch. By then it was well after 1:00. So, off to nap for Mya. I did not get a nap, though. I put the finishing touches on our Christmas Program bulletin and started it printing--60 of them on my little printer takes a while. Then, I thought, "I have gotten so many nice Christmas cards, the least I can do is send out a Christmas email to those who have email." So, I did. Your mom should have a copy. No pictures, though. Waiting for the wedding on that.

Mya was still napping. So, I wrapped my Borders Books gifts, drank a pop, and sat down to blog and that is when I saw your request for an update. Mya has now waken--3:30. The bulletins have just finished printing and I will now finish folding them. Then, I will go and see my husband for the first time in what feels like a month.

Hope this update finds you well.

Sincerely,
Verna

Scissors Maniac Returns

Mya is back at it. She cuts everything in site. Keith finally took the scissors away. It has become, not only a manual dexterity exercise, but a tool of mass destruction. So, he asks me on the phone (I called home from work), what do you call a scissors maniac. The final word, why a CLIPTOMANIAC, of course!!! Aren't we just funny?!??!??!

Joe turns 23, Dec 11!

Our little boy is all grown up!!
We went out to Applebee's to celebrate.
That's his girl, Rachael.

My Hoody

Today we went out to dinner with our son Joe and his girl Rachael to celebrate Joe's 23rd birthday which is on Monday. Mya took a bath so she could be all clean and fresh. I took out this shirt and said she should wear her hoody and be like all the big kids cuz they wear hoodies. She was very excited and kept the hood up and her hands in the pocket for quite a while. She is very proud of Mya's "hooby".

Favorite Photo Friday

Steph has inspired me to post some China pix. We'll keep this crying session going all day. Fortunately, I get to go to work and be distracted :-p

Here's a cute email I received from Keith:

Verna,
Mya was at the counter opening some Target coupons. I have a pile of important papers for you on the counter. I emphasized strongly that that pile was important papers for mommy and that she should not touch them. I went back downstairs about five minutes later. Mya pointed to the pile and said, "Mya didn't touch papers."

Keith

No Soup for You!

My friend Becky asked for a soup recipe. Well, the only soup that gets eaten around here comes from a can. I do make "cowboy stew" every once in a while--ok, maybe every couple years. Sorry girls.

Getting Closer

Last night I ordered my dress for the wedding. Hoping it's as nice as the picture. Tonight, we ordered Mya's dress. Dec 10 is Jon's church's shower. Carrie is finalizing the cake on Sat. They have decided to move into married campus housing for spring semester. So, as Carrie says, it's all falling in place. January 1, 2007 is approaching fast!!
