Old Fashioned Snow Storm

Well, we finally got one. It's snowing like crazy and we must have 8 inches today. I'm so glad it's not bitter cold. In a weird way, it was kind of fun (can you believe I said that) to come out of work tonight to high winds driving the snow into my hair. Fortunately, we have a 4x4 vehicle which we purchased for times such as this. The roads were not well plowed here. We're kind of in a rural area. So, I was actually surprised to see our street plowed. Some crazy person, namely Erin, had driven up our driveway about an hour before I got home. Silly girl. That little red Honda Civic isn't really made for this weather. The Bilbys are in town for a CNY celebration put on by the local FCC chapter. If it gets cancelled, we will have a great time just hanging out and letting the kids (and men) play in the snow.

This picture is from last year but it is an accurate view from my computer, exept, it's dark out now.

When the florist called to tell me I had a delivery coming, he would not tell me who it was from.
So, it was fun to read the card saying THANK YOU, FROM EMMIE & STEF. What a sweet smelling spring-like surprise. There was a set of chopsticks and a magnetic pig for CNY.

Happy New Year

Hi everyone. Not back to full strength--need to save some typing ability for work--but wanted to say Happy Chinese New Year. Thanks to Becky and Chloe for the book. Mya loves it.

Taking A Break

Last Friday, I woke up with extreme pain in my upper back, radiating up my neck and down my right shoulder. I have toughed it out for a week now but am forced to stop posting and computing all together until it's better. Catch you all in a couple days.

Favorite Photo Friday

Since there seems to be a sleeping theme this week, I'm sharing this one. I don't remember taking it. So, I don't know how old Mya is. It's just so peaceful.

Mya's Computer

With all the cold weather, Mya is growing bored with her toys. So, after work, I went to Wally World (Wal*Mart) to see what I could find. For only $20 I bought a VTech personal computer--Hannah had one on one of Pam's posts. I'm hoping she will be busy with it so that I can keep her off my lap while I'm blogging or researching. No Match

Just letting you all know that we were not matched with either of the COP children that we requested. No need to respond. My SW says 5 children are left and we will now review their files. There was one little boy that we were interested in requesting. We'll see if he's on the remaining list.

When I went to work in the afternoon, the radio announcer said we had made it up to zero, warmer than they had anticipated. Of course, 8 hours later, it had dropped considerably-->minus 15. You know it's below zero when you breath in and your nose hairs freeze. You know it is below zero when the snow kind of crunches under your shoes. So, how do YOU know it's below zero????

OMG--it's Alex BD

Hey, I knew there was something about this day that needed to be noticed--Alex turns 9, is that right??
Let me post a picture of my youngest nephew.
Yep, this one pretty well captures Alex!!
Can't really believe he is nine but he is ten yrs younger than Anna (see Jan 13 post)--his big sister.
So, I guess that is right--UNBELIEVABLE!!

Chinese New Year Activity

A little Late

With all the commotion of getting ready for COP requests, I did not post anything in regards to our referral for Mya--Jan 31, 2005. Keith took the call and gave me the details when I came home. I'm not sure where I was, possible at the doctor's for a one week post surgery check. Anyway, we went to our Social Worker's office the next day, Feb 1, to sign on the dotted line. It did not even occur to us to take Carrie and Erin along or to get a picture of the occasion. We were so excited. Guess I will chalk it up to that--we didn't get a camera along when Carrie was born either, the nurses snapped some poleroids for us. I do remember asking when we would be allowed to adopt again. So, even then, we thought we would return. Here are Mya's referral pictures.

Napping on a Cold Day

We have had a busy week here--researching the needs of the children on the COP list, work, church responsibilities and Mya's pneumonia (not bothering her too much). I thought I would lose my mind at one point but thankfully, we have finalized our request and sent it to our Social Worker to go to the Grand Rapids office for consideration. Honestly, I don't think we have much of a chance but we do feel drawn to these girls and want to at least be considered even if we don't like the odds. So, now we wait. Last time, we heard by late Monday. We'll see if they are that fast this time. Just gotta pray.

So, I was exhausted this afternoon. With temps below zero this weekend, we had no desire to go outside. We put Mya down for a nap at about 1:00 pm. I laid down too, to catch up on some missed Z's. I was rolling around thinking Mya should wake up soon, not realizing that it was 5:00 pm. WOW! We both must have been wiped. I have never slept that long in the afternoon and I don't remember Mya taking that long of nap either.

Favorite Photo Friday

I Love this shot of Joe playing with Mya. I told him the slide had a weight limit but that didn't make any difference. He insisted on getting up there wiyh Mya. Don't they look like they are having a serious conversation. Joe doesn't com out too often but Mya thinks he's the greatest and is always happy to see him.
Katie reminded me this was on Mya's 2nd birthday.

Quiet Thursday

***Not much new to report here. Dropped off the COP files with the pediatrician on Tuesday and I'm picking them up this afternoon.
***Took a call from them about Mya's xray. She has a spot of pneumonia on her lungs. She will be on meds for a week. I'm so thankful for a pediatrician who goes the extra mile and had the xray done. Mya is not sick enough to really stop her. Her eating is decreased but the fever is pretty much gone. So, she will go to daycare this afternoon and I will head in to work.
***We have been getting snow for the last 2 days and the temps are dropping. Guess we may have a below zero weekend. Hey, that's life in the tundra. Our Youth are going sliding tomorrow night and they will be giving hot cocoa to the other sliders as an outreach effort. I'm sure it will be a great success.
