Just one more Picture from North Shore Trip

Just had to share this one with you all. These 2 are the youngest grandkids for my parents.--9 and 3 years old. Alex was really good with Mya. He held her hand and carried her and entertained her in the car and when Mya asked to hear her story and interrupted me, Alex wanted to hear the rest. It was such an enjoyable trip. I hope to have another "sisters" vacation some time. Alex, if you read this, thanks for your help and being such a great cousin for Mya.

Let there be Light

Preparing inside.

Working, working

Hi Alex! More work.
Still needs trim.

I have been asking for a window in our living room for a number of years now but it just seemed out of reach. Well, with the garage going in, a window seemed good to Keith this year too. I must say a big thank you to my parents who gave all of us kids a nice monetary gift earlier this year which is making some home improvements possible. We may finally get that front door replaced too. (Our builders were not real particular and it has been crooked all that time.) Here are some pictures throughout the process. I'm still adjusting to all the light. It's just weird after all these years of a blank wall and dark room.

A New Friend

When we were up north to Split Rock Lighthouse, we met a wonderful family from Des Moines. What a treat! The girls latched on to each other like they had always been friends. Someone asked if they were twins. It was just the coolest thing. So, here is a picture of Mya and her new friend Lauren.

We talked for the longest time and, because of the common experience, it also felt like I could talk so freely with them. Funny what a trip to China will do for/to your life.
**********
ADDING THIS ON: Go to Colleen's blog (sidebar Danielson) to see more pix from up north. We had a lot of fun. There's one photo of Alex holding Mya's hand while walking on the breakwater. Double click on it to see it better. It's really special. Also, another shot of Mya and Lauren holding hands and taking off to play after the photo above was taken. It's great!

Can we go in the barn???

Keith started it with a visit to the local pony farm during their open house. Now, everytime we go walking or for a bike ride, we have to stop and pet/feed the babies. Mya is not one bit afraid. One of them actually nibbled her finger and she seemed proud of it!!

A Call from Israel

Erin called yesterday at noon. It is very hot there. She was at Bethelehem on Saturday but, because it was the Sabbath, most things were closed down. As you can tell from her Itinerary (HERE) she was at the sea of Galilee on Sunday. It was very hot -- 116 F. The took a swim and felt much better. She is getting a terrific tan. Keith is dark German heritage and she inherited the "I tan in an instant" gene. If I heard her correctly, someone asked if she was Palestinian. Mr Ferret did joke that he would marry her off while they were there and we would have to send a goat for her dowry or something like that. Anyway, she is having a good time and learning tons. I can't wait to see her pictures. Gwen has asked that she bring them to Nashville next week. I'll see if she can load them on a disc and we can just set up a slide show. Wish I had some pictures today but Erin didn't want to mess with the internet while she was there.

Jobbadoo

Yesterday, I decided to sweep out the garage. So, Mya got out a broom and started to sweep. She was very serious about what she was doing and made sure that her dirt and my dirt were in the same pile. At one point she came over and said she had a jobbadoo. It took me a while to figure it out but after hearing jabbadoo about 4 times I realized that she was telling me she had a job to do. Tonight she is sitting at her table with paper and glue (no scissors) and just told me she had a jobbadoo and she was doing her homework. Daddy calls doing the bills his homework. So, we know where that came from. Funny what they pick up. Today she sat down on the chair and looked at the TV and proclaimed "Nascar". Too funny.

Under Construction

Keith has decided that this is the year of building. We are putting a garage along the driveway. Ever since we moved here, 12 years ago, we have talked about putting one there. At this point, we have 2 small utility sheds to hold all of our stuff. Not sure why this is the year but our mortgage company agreed that it was a fine idea. (OK, they were happy to lend us money so that they could make some money.) With acreage, we figure a garage is a good investment. Many of the people around here own boats and campers (we do not) and someone buying the property in the future (when we are too old to mow massive amounts of grass and blow snow from the really long driveway), will think it is a good idea, too. So, similar to the swingset but on a much grander scale, Keith had to cut down trees to clear the area. He's such a lumberjack ;) Then the trenches were dug for the footings. Mya thought those were great fun. They will be putting in the foundation this week and pouring the floor too. Erin thinks it will be a great place for her friends to party. Hmmmm . . . not sure about that one.

Fat Herman

I don't recall this happening before and it made me chuckle. However, I don't think Mya would be too happy knowing that someone else is using her Dora chair. For those who don't know, Fat Herman tops out over 20 lbs with a small frame in cat terms. So, he is just one big, walking fat roll. Yes he does sway as he walks. He eats and sleeps and poops. The vet tells me that cats don't have underactive thyroids but Herman makes me wonder.

Call from Erin

Erin called to check in this morning. It was near supper time in Israel. They had spent part of the day handing out crayons and teddy bears at a hospital--about 15 min or so. Saw Mesada yesterday and swam in the Dead Sea. All is going well.

Keith also spoke to her--he's at work. Here is what he got out of it.

Just texted Erin. She called back instead. Busy doing yard work today. She doesn't like yard work. Especially in a skirt. Hiking is more fun. She will be doing work all week. Otherwise going fine. She is buying some internet time at the hotel, so she should be emailing soon. Pretty lush in Jerusalem. Food is fine, but the same all the time. Can't mix meet and dairy because it isn't kosher. That makes for dull eating according to Erin.

Check out her Itinerary on the Blogfairy blog to see what she will be doing each day.

The Shores of Lake Superior-Shut off Music

Off to Israel--Wednesday 6/13

So, it's not the most complementary picture but it's reality. Erin chatting with Tim and me making sure Mya has her needs taken care of. This is one of a few shots from the airport prior to Erin's departure.
Here is a group shot. A couple people from the group had not arrived but their leader wanted to get them through customs and eat before boarding. So this is the best we could do. They gathered as a group to pray immediately following the photo.
And off she goes. You can't tell from the pic but she wiped a couple tears as she walked away. The shear emotion of the trip was setting in. I'll post any emails that she sends.
Erin wanted me to thank those who donated to her trip one final time. Without your support, she would not have been able to go. Please continue to pray for a safe trip for the group.

Hello to my Lurkers & today's plans

Hi to Steph D and Grandma Arlene who are a frequent visitors.

Today Mya and I are heading up to the North Shore (Lake Superior) and seeing the sites with Colleen, Colette and Alex. Mya is hoping to put her toes in the big lake. Told her it would be cold but I think we will find a spot for her to give it a try.

Come back tomorrow to see all the pictures. Have a great day everyone!

Happy "blog" Birthday to Me

Can't believe I have been doing this for a full year!

Amazing and addicting.
Mya has grown but still has the sippy.
Keith took the pic of Mya when she fell asleep on the ottaman last week. She didn't take a nap that day and that's what happens. She slept all night from there--not on the ottaman, Keith put her to bed. I was at work and missed it. Good thing he caught it on a picture or I may not have believed it.

Confession Time

Seals in pool

Cheetos & chipmunk

So, you all loved the swingset slideshow so much that I had to admit that Mya was at Como Zoo (free) with Carrie and Jon while we put the swingset together. Total build time (w/o tree removal) -- approx. 3 hours. Also, the anchors still have to be set - Keith is going to use quickcrete or something like that. One little kiddo is not likely to tip it but more could be dangerous.
BTW, Carrie said that Mya liked a chipmunk the best at the zoo. Go figure--we have them in our yard!! Also, Mya whined for icecream and to go on the train for about half the time. This suprises Carrie. I think it is totally normal!! Anyway, that is Carrie's reason for not having more pictures. Yeah, mom is kind of snap happy. Only about 1 in 10 of my photos make it to the blog. You've got to be snap happy when you have fans to entertain ;)
