Itinerary Arrives

Look what arrived today!!
No updates on Noah but not much longer until we meet him--Feb 18, not 17 as we had thought.

Who you lookin' at??

Search and Destroy is having a confessional today. There are just too many things to confess. I won't be putting any of them on there. However, here is one that is probably not new. I am NOT a nutrition maniac. Mya eats all kinds of really bad stuff during the day, as do I. Here she is having rice with butter and brown sugar for breakfast. It's about 10:30 and we are still in our jammies with no interest in getting dressed any time soon. We may go to Target if Noah's size updates arrive but that will be later in the day.

I just found Mya cutting her own fingernails. Is three and a half young to be able to do that?? Now she's doing her toe nails. Did I mention she's naked?? Just went the big #2 and will be putting on clothes now because the pullup came off as did the PJs. Have you had enough info????????
Don't worry, I vacuumed the house this morning. So, I did SOME housework. ;)
I may even fold clothes and think about packing for China.

New Name and Man It's Cold

Last night I finally decided on a new blog name, with Erin's approval. For a long time I have been saying the big kids and the little kids. It seemed appropriate to title the blog as such. We won't be growing our core family any more, for many reasons. I do expect to have sons and daughters in law some day. Growth is inevitable, thankfully so. I hope you will continue to visit to see what life sends our way.

Here in the Midwest, we are in the deep freeze again. You always know it's cold when the weather person gets that hot cup of water, tosses it in the air and it makes snow. Just too cold for me. I was thrilled to have +30s on Sunday and Monday and in my naive state, thought it would stay that way. Not so. It was -15 this morning with wind chill warnings. Our local school district is 2 hours late--they don't want the kids standing in the cold waiting for the buses. Erin is always bummed when that happens -- she does not attend our local district. So, she had to go as usual. We will be inside all day today, fireplace running.

Quiet Here

People keep asking me how I'm feeling as the time to leave for Noah approaches. I feel excited sometimes. I feel like it's unreal sometimes.

We are having a quiet day here. Mya calls them home days--days when mom doesn't work and she doesn't have to go to daycare. Daycare days are Teddy Bear Days. Our daycare is Teddy Bear daycare. She enjoys going there but when it's a lot, she wants those home days.

Mya was playing Wow Wow Wubzy on Man is she good at it. They have so many fun games that she can spend an hour playing. Basically she plays til she gets stuck/frustrated.

Hope you are having a great day. If not, we'll relax for you. ;)

Fire Drill

Last night Erin was making lemon poppy seed muffins for her boyfriend's birthday. Yum. Our kitchen has a vaulted ceiling and in the highest area, there is a smoke/heat detector. In most cases, this is a good thing to have but let's just say, it's a crummy location. As is common, when the oven was very hot, there was enough heat going up to the vault that it set of the alarm--very annoying. Mya and I were down here in the family room - me at the computer, Mya watching TV. When the alarm went off, Mya instinctively grabbed something, this time a sweatshirt, and waved it at the smoke alarm! As if that wasn't enough, it went off again and she was holding a pillow--yep she waved the pillow at the alarm! Guess we have done that just a few times cuz she knows the drill! I hope we never have a real fire!

Story for Big Sis

I talked to Carrie the other day and she is just not interested in my blog layout business. She likes to read the silly things that her little sissy is up to. This story is dedicated to Carrie.

While getting ready for Church yesterday, Mya was attempting to put a clip in her hair. She was moving the clip from her tempo back to collect hair to clip. As I watched, the clip kept moving farther and farther back until it was in the very back of her head. For some reason I asked her where the clip was. Her reply: In China!

Preparation for the Big Trip

Well, I finally bought Pull-ups. Sounds silly but it just seemed to be a big thing to me. We have 2 packs of the 2T-3T and that should be plenty. Don't want to run out though. Chinese diapers leave a lot to be desired--I rate them similar to the generics you get at Wal*Mart.

In other preparatory efforts, Keith has now downloaded some 500 song on to our newly won IPOD. For those who have BTDT, you may remember missing the English language. I plan to have lots of options for both that and the soothing genre.

Our tickets have arrived as have our VISAs. I have a duffle bag half packed but I know I'll be taking it all out and repacking. Keith got a new backpack to fit the laptop in to. We have downloaded Skype and tested the webcams. Very high tech this time around. We have purchased inflatable travel pillows so we can sleep on the plane. I have sleeping pills to help overcome jetlag and nervous sleeping patterns.

I still need to learn some basic Chinese words for "I have to go potty" and "time for bed" and a few more that I haven't decided on yet. Gwen and Pam, I could use some help with that.

At home, I've got Colleen all arranged to arrive on Feb 13 so that the dog and Mya can adjust to her presence. I've got plans to send Mya to daycare 2 days a week and the big kids are taking her to Underwater world on President's day --it's at MOA. Note to self --call work perks to get discounted tickets. Katie and her BF, Phil, will be taking Mya for day of sliding. I think Colleen will be taking Mya to visit my parents one day. Most of this is already on the calendar.

On the blog fairy front, hoping Becky will come on board to help you all out in my absence. Also hoping she'll be able to come up for CNY.

Can't believe that in less than a month, we'll be with Noah. I just pray that his preparation on that end will help him be comfortable with us, at least as comfortable as a little boy going home with strangers can be. I'm preparing for crying and screaming and kicking. Part of me wishes we could take Mya along for him but I know she would not travel well.

Have a great Sunday. I'm working a shift for a Packer Backer today and will work Super Bowl Sunday if the Pack wins. The gal I'm covering for rarely takes time off. I can use the money. It's all good.

Waiting Families/Waiting Children

Ever since we were matched with Noah and even more as we approach the day to travel to pick up our smiling ball of energy, I am saddened by two things -- Waiting families and Waiting Children. China adoption has become a crazy thing. When we began the adoption process for Mya, the wait from Log In to Referral was estimated at 6-7 months and that's exactly what it was.

During that time, a couple lists with waiting children came out and we did not take them very seriously, mainly because the wait was short. I wonder now, how many of those children went unmatched because of the short wait times. These days, I see the wait times not just increasing but skyrocketing and yet many waiting children still wait, especially the boys.

I know there are many families who have reasons for wanting a daughter and I am not here to debate that. I just have a burden lately to help the waiting children find Forever Families and I really don't know what I can do except encourage my friends to consider these children.

I posted on my "Chinaboys2 - Chinaboys -The Wonderful Boys from China" Yahoo group, stating that our agency has 7 waiting boys. Sadly, there have been two replies saying that their agencies also have waiting boys.

My conclusion: If you are waiting family, please consider a waiting child. Both will benefit.

Here is a link to Bethany Christian Services. They do not post their special needs children on the web but will be happy to answer any questions you may have if you contact a local office.

Wow!! Counting Blessings!!

Keith bought our webcam late last week so that we would be ready for the big trip. Want to be able to see Mya and have Mya and Erin see Noah and Noah to see them. This week Keith walks in to Target to get lunch and his usual popcorn ;). For some reason, he is drawn to the weekly ads and his eyes fall on our newly purchased web cam--MARKED DOWN. Keith had the receipt with him. So he marched over to the customer service desk & got the refund --Yipee, $$ back.

Today, he gets a mail that looks like just another bogus junk mail giveaway. He immediately deleted it but something caught his eye and he dug it out of his deleted file to look closer. Lo and behold, he won an Apple Ipod Nano. What a blessing!! We can download our favorite tunes, mostly Christian, and listen on the plane. Also, I have some of those calming CDs, you know the rain and harp kind, that are very useful to fall asleep by if you are feeling stressed. All I can say is THANK GOD!! He is surely good to us!!

News from Alabama

I've heard of people getting pictures from others but did not really consider it happening to us. How cool is it when you get a picture of your child from someone you have never met before?!?
This beautiful boy, Paul William, was most likely in foster care with Noah. Our paperwork does say he had an older foster brother.
Don't miss the post below to learn more amazing things.

One of my soon-to-be travel buddies offered to touch up Noah's picture and take the scratches off of it. Thanks so much. You know who you are E.D. Take a look in the sidebar to see how it turned out. Here's the original.

Another one of our future travel mates, Heather, started a Yahoo group just so the February travelers could get to know one another. It is really helpful. Heather is also going to Wuhan. I am looking forward to getting to know her and her hubs. I'm also really thankful to have another couple traveling to our province.

Today is going a better. Some sleep, some more coffee, Nemo on the tube and yep, I get to go to work too. Responsibility does have a way of keeping a person going. I just want to get on the plane and head to China to bring our boy home.

I still have lots to do. I did sort through some of the wonderful clothes/toys that you all gave Noah. I am deciding which ones I can fit in the suitcase and which will need to stay here. A sweatshirt/pants and a winter coat will be in there as will lots of pull ups. Those will all be carry on so that if anything gets lost, it's not his stuff. I will make sure necessities and at least one change of clothes for me is in there too. It seems like such a daunting task at this point. I packed and unpacked so many times before we left for Mya that I only want to do it once for Noah. I think it is all in my head. I just need to actually do it. I have at least 5 days off prior to leaving. I think that will be plenty of time to pack.

Colleen (my sister) is all set to come. Well, as set and ready as you can be when you are watching some body's kid at their house. We have stuff scheduled for them to do. So, I'm hoping all will go well. Sometimes I don't know which will be harder--getting Noah or leaving Mya behind. I know it will all be well. So, I keep giving it to God.

Yep, It's Tuesday

Today is one of those days where mom did not get enough sleep and could bite your head off. So, to be on the safe side, let's just all take a nap!

Those Guys!!

Today, Mya sneezed on our way to church. Mya says "I got the guys out of my nose".
Well, all I can say is, if you have guys up your nose, be thankful you can sneeze them out!!

I haven't decided if it is better for them to be in her nose or hiding in my dresser drawers. Yep they do that too.

If I were a great artist, I think I could write a book about these guys and possibly make a load of cash.

I171 Approved and Visas Arrive

Hi Everyone!

Just got an email that our I171 has been approved. That was our last formality. SO, thank God!! Visas came today too. We are ready to go!

Still need to get a bed in to Mya's room for Noah. I think Keith plans to put Joe's old mattress on the floor. That will work. Just a pain to fix. But, no worries on falling out.

Housecleaning today. Putting away Christmas decorations. Got some animal spots on the carpet that are really bugging me. Don't want to pay to have a cleaner come in but may have to resort to that since I can't seem to get rid of the smell. Funny thing is, Keith can't seem to smell it. Guess his nose went the way of his ears. Do they sell smelling aids?? ;)

Carrie and Jon are in town and will visit tomorrow. We have their cake topper from their wedding. You know the tradition of eating it at your 1 yr anniversary. Keith and I did that and it was amazingly fresh. Carrie and Jon are taking it home to have it all to themselves. I don't want to host Jon's family. So, since we can't all be together, I'm just fine with that.

Colleen is planning to watch Mya and supervise Erin during our absence. We are relieved to have February travel as Colleen had complications this month.

I'm lining up someone to post for me if I have problems while in Guangzhou. Gwen had issues. So, I want to be ready.

Carrie is selling us her laptop. That will be so great. We're getting a webcam to keep in contact with Mya, Erin and Colleen.

That's today's news.

Hugs from MN
