Moving finally sinks in when . . .

1) You sit down in the porch with your cup of coffee, reach over to set your coffee down and the coffee table is missing . . . it's in storage.
2) Your husband complains because his favorite watermelon cutting knife is gone . . . to storage.
3) You call your married daughter to ask what she wants to put in storage.
4) Your grown son is worried about his childhood toys so put them in storage.
5) Your five year old gives the OK to put her Dora Blanket in storage.
6) Your four year old actually helps you put toys in a box to put in storage.
7) You realize you can live without certain clothing until the fall and put them in storage.
8) You wish you could give as much to Good Will as you have already put in storage.
9) Your garbage cans overflow because you simply refuse to take certain things to storage.
10) Your teenage daughter finally notices things are missing and asks "Did you get some storage?"

Moving Means Changes, Hard Changes

With great intrepidation, we found a new home for Ginger. City yards are small and city neighbors are not very tolerant of dogs snooping around. Ginger needs room to chase squirrels and sniff out rabbits without bothering anyone. So, after some help from Homeward Bound (we agreed that if we ever needed to do this it would be through them), we were contacted by a family with many acres, three chilren and three cats. Keith took Ginger down there on Sunday (I was at work, again) and at this point, they are giving her a trial period to see if she fits with their family. If so, she will stay there.

Who misses her most? I would say it is a tie between me and the kitten--the two of us spent the most time with Ging. The kitten is pestering us for attention. I didn't totally realize how co-dependant they were. They played together daily, actually off and on all day. I sure hope Ginger develops a good relationship with her new kitties.

I miss that little dance she did when I got up in the morning or came home at night. To me, she is a sweet dog with a huge heart. Yes, she did go in and out a bit, depending on squirrel activity but hey, that's pretty normal! She was always there, just there. Funny how you take that for granted. I do miss her but I know that if this family chooses to keep her, she will be well loved and taken care of.

We had one excited girl on our hands for a few days before the big day. Could have made one of those countdown chains or something cuz she was keeping close track. We celebrated mainly on Thursday as I had to work on Friday--the 15th. We went out to McD's on Thursday evening--Mya's choice and then off to Target to spend the money that some very generous grandmas had sent to Mya. The purchases included a mermaid Barbie, sparkle color sheets with color wonder markers and a Hello Kitty T-shirt. She was a pretty happy shopper. I can't believe that I did not get one photo of her doing all this. We didn't purchase a cake, so that must be the problem. Anyway, Erin got her more coloring sheets--the huge ones, and a Sleeping Beauty puzzle. Carrie had purchased a Barbie for her while we were in Colorado. She had a great time turning 5. I think the funnest part for me was when she burst in to my bedroom on Friday morning and said "Daddy, I'm five!" Unfortunately Daddy had already gone to work but it was oh so cute!

I have packed 12 boxed and that hasn't even made a dent in the house. A few cupboards are bare but there is just so much that I really don't know where to start!! Think I will sit down next to Noah and chew on my toe!

Banquet 2009

Sorry folks, my pics came out too blurry to share. You will have to check out Erin's facebook friends to get a better look. I did nab this one from there so you can see Erin and her date. Had to enlarge it too. Not great quality. :(

Murphy Makes it HOME!!

Old friends united!!
For those who missed it, Murphy was accidentally left in a hotel in Nebraska on the way home from Colorado. Guess we forgot to make that final sweep that we usually do--probably because the kids were fighting over who would get to pull the suitcase down the hall.
All is well that ends well!!

Where to Begin???

Now that the house is sold, I have to start the wonderful job of packing. BUT, I don't know where to start. It is all very overwhelming. I will put it off until I have some boxes . . . ;)
Seriously, though, I have been sorting clothes and making arrangements for the dog and getting ready for Erin's grad party. So it really is all coming together, VERY slowly. Stay tuned for prom pictures. That is this weekend!

Home Sweet Home

This is our new house.

Our current home.

No matter where you live, cottage or mansion, city or country, it is always great to get home after a trip. We arrived home about 10pm last night and were very glad to be able to sleep in our own beds. Today we did all kinds of seemingly trivial things like dental appointments, doctor appointments, purchasing Mya's flower girl dress for Katie's wedding, doing laundry and other needed items like getting grad invites ready to mail. Keith is preparing his new trailer for our impending move.

Let me add that Murphy and pink blankey were left in the hotel in Nebraska. We are thankful to God that he was found and is on his way back to us via some sort of mail. Tonight is has been rough in Murphy's absence. Daddy is laying in Mya's bed helping her get to sleep.
As you can see, our house is sold and we have purchased another one. They are actually similar in a lot of ways which is what drew us to the new house. It is on a cul-de-sac with sidewalks all around the circle. It has a bike path running through the yard so that we can bike from the house to a nearby lake. It is close to my brother's home--about 1 mile east. There are two public schools and one Christian school nearby--all have good reputations. We are close to shopping and all that city stuff. Yes, we will miss our acres and wildlife but not misquitoes and deerflies. We will miss walking the long driveway but not clearing the snow in the winter. Life is full of gives and takes. We have experienced both city and county living and have found that you can be happy in either place but having family close by is a good thing.

Sorry, No Pictures

On our way home from Colorado, we stopped to visit the Bilbys. Becky had a couple hours between kids stuff and we needed a break from driving. It was so fun to see them. Chloe and Mya kept busy playing. Noah went down in their lower level and claimed a computer right next to the boys. That is the picture I see in my mind--all 4 boys, each at a computer, doing their own thing. Becky and I chatted it up while Keith went to a hardware store. Guess each of us has a different definition of the word "break". It was SO great to be able to see them and catch up. Well, actually, we were only behind by a couple days because we chat online all the time but a physical visit is MUCH better.
Since I have not photos of the visit, I am providing a link to the town's big Tulip festival. If you head down there, the Bilbys will be hiding and Mr Brian will be out enjoying the time of his life!!

Colorado Visit--Jon Graduates College

Grandma sent a quilt along with us for Jon. It is quite beautiful. I snapped this with the cell phone so the picture does not do the quilt justice.
Jon and Carrie live across the street from the Regis University. So, it was an easy walk to the ceremony.
Keeping busy before the ceremony.

This tree became a playspot for Mya, Noah and Jon's 2 neices.
The whole family following the ceremony.

Visiting Grandpa and Grandma

Dad (on left) chattin' it up with another resident while Mya steals, I mean checks out, their May Day baskets.

The nursing home has a bird cage with LOTS of birds. We always have to check them out.

Every Friday this man comes to the nursing home to play the concertina. The kids loved it. They danced and danced and the residents enjoyed watching their energy.
